Authentic Wyoming
Engaging, funny, and rarely – as in never - at a loss for words, Union’s Tressa Barnes and Myra Robinson are on a mission to celebrate and highlight the businesses and organizations that help grow, foster, and care for those who live in the communities Union serves in Wyoming, and some of our closest neighbors in Colorado, and Utah. (They’re practically Wyomingites.)
In conversations running a gamut of topics, you’ll get insight into what drives the entrepreneurs and small business owners that make Wyoming tick. You’ll laugh. You may cry. But mostly you’ll come away with a better understanding of the Cowboy state and its people.
We hope that others will be inspired to support these efforts or follow in their footsteps in altruistic undertakings of their own. Because a journey of a thousand miles always begins with a single step.

Hi, I'm Myra.
And I'm Tressa. We are fancy marketing people with Union. A Wyoming-based telecommunication company. Yes, Wyoming really does exist. We proudly serve the Rocky Mountain region. On this podcast, we will feature businesses, organizations, non-profits, and influential people from Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.
Our mission is to highlight those who inspire their communities daily. We believe this makes us truly authentic because a journey of a thousand miles always begins with a single step.
Hey, Tressa. Hey, Myra. Good morning. Good morning. I love your hat. Yeah, I love the pink with the gold and the green yourself. Festive. And Magnolia picked the hat.
So beautiful. I had to wear it. It was this or some weird Mickey or Peppermint Patty-looking thing. So I always trust a four-year-old. Yeah, for fashion. Yeah, This is it. Yeah. Pink of my whole wardrobe would be pink. I think it's really funny because every time I have another sweater and then, like, a blue color like this, and she goes, Mom, can I have a blanket in that color?
And I'm like, You are your mother's daughter. Yeah. Blink an eye. All the colors. Yeah. So here we go. But, yeah, well, it's our holiday episode. Yeah, it's our holiday episode. Kind of wrapping up the year. Yeah. Crazy to think we're even remotely near the house and. Yeah, or that it's even. It's kind of wild, right? Yeah, I know time is flying by, but it's been a good, good six months with our podcast so far.
Yeah, I think so too. It's been interesting and different and, not a better than I expected in a good way. So not what I expected, but better than what I expected. So I'll good things. It's been just kind of crazy to see like what we envisioned in the beginning and then what's happening now. Yeah, it's been fun to see how it's evolved right from the first podcast that we've done to whatever episode we're recording now.
I think we launched in June. Yeah, and we have been doing one every other week, so we've got several under our belts. But I feel like the more that we've done the podcast, the more we've understood kind of what our vision is, right? It's kind of evolving as we get different guests on and highlight different things. And so I think it's been a lot of fun.
It's been a really interesting it's been interesting for me to talk to some of the guests that we've talked to. I've learned a lot about Wyoming and about different organizations that I had no idea even existed. Yeah, So I think it was really fun. So in the summer, our listeners, we have a sponsorship that we partner with called Shine Frontier Days.
Well, it's it's more than our sponsorship that we partner with. It's this massive rodeo that's extremely important we have, which does not exist without us. Yeah, it's sorry to tell you guys for all the radio people out there. Just kidding. But yes, Shine Frontier days and we are very fortunate that we have our box. And so, you know, we trust that I get to talk to people.
Brian would be our chief customer relations officer. Yeah. He gets to chit chat and mingle. And our good friend David, who's been on the podcast, he comes in and mingles for people too, because he's also very important person. These people. Yeah. Anyhow, it was just fun this year, like kind of for recruiting Podcast Guest Yeah, I know it was really interesting.
Yeah, I think we, we have three or four people that we met during Cheyenne Frontier days that are going to be on upcoming episodes and one is Donny Prophet. He's a saddle bronc rider. I help with the Saddle Rock. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he is. So yeah, I think he's isn't he bareback? I think so. Well, those are two different.
that's two different things. I think. Anyway, sorry. He'll be. He's terrifying. He rides a wild horse. Yeah, it's really crazy to me. But anyway, he is allowing native from Kemmerer and he was in Cheyenne Frontier Days, so really excited to talk to him about Rodeo and Wyoming and all those types of things. And then I, we meet with the governor quite often there.
He stops by our booth, usually every day, actually. And so with talking to him and the mayor of Cheyenne, we were able to get connected to the first lady, Jenny Gordon, and she has the Wyoming Hunger Initiative, and we'll be recording a podcast with her in a few weeks to talk about that and what that means and how people can support that or if they need assistance with that, how do they get that?
So that's exciting. Yeah, I'm really excited. For those. It was different to be able to ask people to come on the podcast and people were really accepting about it and you know, we're just getting started, you know, And so some people haven't heard all the episodes yet. And so for them to be so engaged and agree to do it, I thought that was really cool.
Without canned people. No one said no. No one said no. No one has yet to bribe anybody. Yeah, I have not had to do like a jig or like dance down the road for anyone or donate to the car. Yeah. No, I mean every Yeah. It's all been. Yes. Which is really impressed me. So yeah, I think that they're very intrigued that we are highlighting the state of Wyoming in different ways.
To my knowledge, I don't think anybody else is doing that in this format anyway. So I think that they're very supportive and want to continue to make this successful for not only us but the entire state. I it's, it's complimenting people not only in Wyoming but Utah and Colorado as well, but in this region. Yeah, I agree. And I feel like our our breadth of topics and things have kind of rolled in.
We've had some listeners suggest different topics for our one listener in North Carolina. So yeah, hey, so we've like there's a few things that we have planned out and that are coming up based on suggestions. And so it's been really cool to hear topics that I wouldn't have thought about or different groups and representation that people are seeking to hear from within the state or within the region in general.
And because I know we'll have a guest that's out of state, but it fits the topic of what our listeners are looking for and who thinks that they're engaged in things that make Wyoming authentic, you know? Yeah, Yeah, it'll be interesting. Yeah. We have our first guest. He's actually lives in Texas, but he has his own podcast and it's all about Western lifestyle, really, Right.
And so he was actually at Cheyenne for ten days recording some episodes for his podcast. We had no idea what he was doing. Yeah, like we're watching them and we're like, they're really recording every second of this rodeo, you know? And then we realized we're like, yeah, everything is content, everything is so. And he does his podcasts completely live, so he goes to the location.
So that's a unique perspective as well. But I think it's a perfect fit because it does fit into the lifestyle of the West, right? Cowboys, trailers, trucks, trucks, all those types of things is what he talks about. And then also, I believe his wife and him both also do some real estate stuff with like ranches, right. So large properties, smart, which is I mean, that's what we have here.
Yeah, they know what they're doing. Yeah. So I'm excited to have him on and yeah, that's it's really cool. I think almost all of our guests signed for two days. We talked almost everyone we booked. I think so, except a couple. You know, a lot of them have come from our recent partnerships and a lot of the sponsorships we do because we are such a community-based company.
And our focus, you know, is on elevating our communities and enriching them, whether it be in the local level or whether it be statewide or within the Rocky Mountain region. And so I'm excited to talk to those people who have who've come from those who fostered through those relationships. Yeah, absolutely. I was trying to think, maybe you can answer this.
Do you have like a I don't want to say a favorite guest, but maybe a most memorable moment so far from the podcast. We are both. We are my favorite guest. It's our pilot episode that was so funny and we were so not nervous, but it just it clicked. And I loved our pilot episode because I knew I'm like, yeah, we got something.
I can do this, we can do this. I was nervous. yeah, for sure. Yeah. Of the new. Yeah. So we did it I think conversation was I've really enjoyed, I've enjoyed all of them so freely. No favorites, but one of the ones that I've had a lot of feedback on would be probably a intentions, the one we did with Leslie.
A lot of people have commented on that one. I've had a lot of feedback about the 211. People really enjoyed that episode with Olivia and I'm trying to think one of them sparked like topics. I can't remember which one now. That's unfortunate that I don't remember, but I understand though. Yeah, but those two, those were our openers and a lot of people really kind of grasped onto those and really enjoyed it.
I really think also to with the Evans Child Development Center, that episode just kind of surprised me. Yeah, it surprised me too. I mean, you have a daughter that attend school there, but I had no knowledge of it at all. Yeah, but it was really interesting to see some of the programs that they did and how they were teaching, like more mindfulness and like emotional regulation to these children.
I thought it was wonderful what I learned. I also I mean, we've been a sponsor with Wyoming or University of Wyoming Athletics for years, right? And so when we had Brad on the podcast, you know, I was shocked to learn so much from him thinking that I had such a knowledge of that organization and really I just knew the tip of the iceberg.
Yeah. So I thought that conversation was really great. Also. I think so too, also with Dan. With the Yeah, with what Wyoming said. Yeah, I totally I didn't think about the logistics of the arena. And yeah, it's funny because I was talking to a friend who's going to the NFR. In Vegas, for those who don't know where they of most people are, probably too far is by far.
Philip Denver Right. Yeah, I was always in Vegas, but they do it in the, the Vegas, it's in the convention center for my knowledge in Miami in that arena. believe right maybe I'm pretty sure it's in a location but it made me think about Dan when he talked about the dirt Yeah. Monster trucks and he filled the arena with there.
And then they have to move it out. And then there's a new event and it's quick and it the people have to be on it and it takes literally a village and I was thinking about that with the NFR, like, Ooh, I would not want to be that person who had to coordinate that. But how cool would it be to see the reward of an of a things moving in and out like different events?
Yeah. So made me think of Dan. I thought about Dan when they were talking. So that episode surprised me too. Yeah. I didn't really think about, well, just the vast, the vastness of the events that they have, right? I because we also partner with Wyoming High School Sports Association, which a lot of their events are held in that center.
So that's kind of where my focus was not thinking about monster trucks or concerts or all these others or. Yeah, I mean, is that so? Is that one? Yeah. He won't be back for another 20 years. Yeah. On his farewell tour. Yeah. I'll catch him then. Spares that touring with them. Yeah. Like, here we go. Yeah, well, we'll catch him then.
Yeah. So who would be a guest you wish would come on the podcast? That's a great question. Well, I'd love to get Ivan Moody for five finger death Punch. He now lives in Cheyenne. He's opened up a I don't know if it's actually a drug rehabilitation, but it's around mental health awareness and if they need help with those types of things.
So I'd like to learn more about that. And so it'd be really interesting to see why he moved back to Wyoming. I know his mother lived here and I'm not sure of his exact history, but he lived in that area and like, what was his driving force to support that type of initiative here in the state? So hopefully fingers crossed.
Yeah, we're reaching out. So yeah, if you hear us, we're calling you. Yeah, that's right. If you're listening, if you're listening or if someone is listening that knows you, we're coming for you and well, and these are these people who have you know, we have a certain space, right? That we can offer a certain level of elevation. Right.
But when you talk about a superstar, right. I mean, this he's in a major band, travels all over the country, all over the world. You know, his voice talking about what he's doing within our state for people who are in certain need. Right. Would be very powerful. Yeah. So, yeah, we're just setting out the audience completely. Yeah. Yeah.
So I'm all for that. Yeah. If you hear a siren, call us. Police numbers are out there. Yeah. It's easy to find that. Yeah, it's easier if we're not called. What about you, Josh Allen? Of course. Yeah. Like we have to see if you're out there, Josh, and you hear us. Hey, we are calling out to you. I think that would just be really cool.
It would be cool. I you know, who knows with that one? But I think late for University of Wyoming for several years he is such a superstar and I don't know how many really cool quarterbacks come from YouTube.
You could probably tell me more than him and he's pretty awesome. Yeah, I'm not sure about quarterbacks. I mean, yeah, you know, I think Brad talked about like there are different players, different players that are in the NFL, but I mean, you know, a high level quarterback, he may be the only one. Yeah. That's come out of the University of Wyoming.
Yeah yeah Josh give us a call. Yeah. Have your people call my people. Yeah. Which is me for easy to find. Yeah. You can find this hard. So yeah, that would be it. But yeah, Yeah. So favorite outtake, probably the entire intentions. First half of the episode. I'm calling Leslie the wrong name. Then I named the studio the wrong name.
Yeah, I just totally lost all brain cells, I guess. Like, I don't know what was going on with me that day, but. Yeah, well, it was our second episode together, right? But what's so funny is I probably still would not call her her married name. I'm serious. I think I just. She is who she. And I don't even know why I've known her Married.
I didn't even know or not. Yeah, you know. Yeah. So. But I think. I don't know. Yeah. It's like it's all lost on me. I think those little nuances are what, make it fun. Yeah, it was a little hilarious. Yeah, but I totally butchered that one. So you recovered? Well, yeah. I mean, from being, you know, our good friend that we don't know her name, but.
Yeah, like this person I really like. But, hey, I don't know anything about you. I don't even know your name. Yeah, it's kind of like with my mom was the lead singer of the band with my dad, and she just always said, you know, when you forget the lyrics, just keep going. Like, you just don't stop. Just don't stop.
You just can't stop. So it's kind of the same mentality, you know? Well, that's a good it's good advice for less it in general. But yeah, so when you just start butchering things, you just roll with the punches and then it all works out so well. You've got to know when you're live like this. Yeah, there's nothing I can do about it.
Yeah, I can do about it. Laugh at yourself and just move on. Yeah, Yeah. Like you have Keith. Yes. Who does cut out some of my terribleness? one was really bad. Was the I forgot the the the basketball NBA playoffs. my gosh. I completely forgot. I was like, why do I even bring it up if I can't even remember what the heck I'm going to say next?
So yeah, Keith helped me there. Yeah, just edited out. Keith. Keith a lot. Got it? Yeah. Well, we'd love to hear from you guys on episodes you'd like us to bring to you for the next year. This will be our last podcast that you'll hear in 2023, and we'll start back up in 2024. So leave comments, suggestions. We'd love to hear from the listeners on what they'd like to hear about Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Rocky Mountain region, Anything within that realm?
Yeah. Topics, people, suggestions, whatever. Yeah, I'd love to hear it. So we're open to it. Yeah. Anyways, well, happy holidays. Yeah, happy holidays. Hopefully Santa is very good too, you know, He always is. Yeah, because I'm Santa. I got to say, it's either you or Troy. We know Troy's all right. He's great, too. Either way, I'm well taken care of.
Yeah. Awesome. Well, thanks, guys.
Until next time,
Stay Authentic.
